How to choose the right dog for YOU:

Choosing your dog is an important decision. How do you make it?

Think about your current life and home and what changes you will be willing to make. Be realistic!

Now make a list of your must haves in a dog. What are you looking for? What are your deal breakers? Here is the list I came up with when I looking for my new best friend:

1. Not too confident. If I need to show my dog who is boss, I need a dog that will be easier to boss around as I am not a super confident person.

2. Sits when told. Sit is one of the most basic commands and I want a dog who seems fairly trainable since I am new to raising a well behaved dog.

3. Not a big barker. We live in a duplex and I don’t want our neighbors to hate us.

4. Not too young. 4-6 months old. Puppies are a lot of work but I want a dog that is in its prime for training and hasn’t already picked up bad habits.

5. Black fur. I wear black quite often so I won’t have to worry about using the lint roller every time I walk out the door. I’ve also heard that black dogs are less likely to be adopted so I think choosing a black dog will be helping out even more.

Lastly, please get your dog from a rescue or the humane society! There are so so so many sweet dogs waiting for their forever home. Some rescues even have puppies, you just have to search around for the ones that do.

If you are realistic and have a list, it will be easy to choose the dog that is right for!

How did you choose your dog or did he/she choose you?
